Yes, the museum is exactly what Dali wanted! It is a labyrinth of different shaped rooms, upstairs and downstairs, all filled with every kind of art imaginable and unimaginable. The museum first opened in 1974, and Dali added on to it as he decided he needed to. I’m not sure we saw the whole thing because we got lost several times! But, it was a great experience and a place we would like to return to when we have more time.
We met Marti Dacosta, a writer, photographer, and owner of the dalicatessen in the courtyard of the Salvador Dali Museum. Marti’s restaurant is called Dalicatessen…a very clever name. He was a joy to meet, and we said we’d get together later in the week at Cadaques.

The images here are a very tiny number of the various art forms you’ll see when you visit the museum. It is truly amazing how many different art forms Dali enjoyed. The museum is well worth visiting if you’re going to Spain. We spent more time than we thought we would in the museum. It was a wonderful experience; however, we had to leave so that we would get to Cadaques by dinner time.

Cadaques
As we drove into the village of Cadaques, we were overwhelmed by its small size and quaint beauty. The town was...well, it's hard to come up with the words...all I can say is that it was comfortable. The small size and friendly people, and the sound of the waters in the bay lapping the shore made us feel like this was home. I can understand why Salvador Dali famously declared Cadaques the most beautiful village in the world.
Our hotel, Playa Sol, was located on the bay with a balcony overlooking the village of Cadaques at the far end of the bay. After we made ourselves comfortable in our hotel rooms, we walked downtown to enjoy dinner. (Just a note about the food: Everywhere we ate, the food was amazing. At the end of the trip we heard that Spain had trumped France as the best tasting food in the world.)

As we walked back to our hotel, Clyde saw this scene of small boats sitting on the shore in front of our hotel. It was the first photograph he took on our trip, Boats on Caadques Shore. And, when we returned to our hotel room and looked out over the bay with the twinkling lights of Cadaques in the distance, Clyde took his second photograph, Cadaques Evening.
